THE SHOPPING TROLLEY
- The consumer icon

idea for an artistic work
for the BVL - Braunschweig
(not realized)

My artistic work is a "memory picture
of a shopping cart". Blindfolded, I drew the shopping cart blindfolded on a body sized paper, trying to memorize its composition: what is the shape of the basket, the grid in between, the connection to the handle, where is
the coin deposit? - where is the coin
deposit key, how does the construction lead to the rolling wheels. From a multiplicity of these "blind investigations“-drawings I then decided on the version submitted here, which contains these "core elements" of a shopping cart. However without being immediately recognizable as such, but could be guessed at longer observation. The COURTYARD DRAWING I would like to propose the characteristics of such a drawing as a spatial experience for the BVL courtyard. The drawing will be shown in enlarged dimension (about 115 sqm area) transferred to the flooring (embedded in the flooring with environmentally friendly asphalt paint). For users and visitors of the BVL, depending on the location and perspective, there will always be a different image of one and the same drawing and will only become recognizable as a shopping cart in the course of a certain attention reveal itself as a shopping cart. But it is also a freely readable spatial drawing, which rhythmically deconstructs the inner courtyard by means of lines and thereby created surface determinations, rhythmically declines and so also allow other associations.
