THE SHOPPING TROLLEY
- The consumer icon
idea for an artistic work
for the BVL - Braunschweig
(not realized)
THE KEY - to the shopping cart
For the lawn area at the entrance a
"key" is proposed, which can also be interpreted as a key to the shopping cart, or it might be understood as a
key to the ground drawing in the courtyard.
On a low concrete base (120x40x30 cm} lies a gilded object
(made of cast aluminum, 35x10x5 cm)
that has the visual characteristics of
a common deposit key, which as such is necessary to release a shopping cart, e.g. at a supermarket, in order to then be able to use it for shopping. This sculptural setting is kept deliberately discreet in proportional relation to the green space and the building elements.
It is thus more like the Blue Mauritius on an envelope, but its striking unconventionality will at the same time might be perceived as a "signal" by
users and visitors alike.
A signal that can be understood as a bridge to the shopping cart drawing in the courtyard, but also as a key to the
entrance and
to the BVL's mission and identity.
